WTA provided engineering design for the eleven-story West Pavilion building on the University of Alabama campus. The facility includes a five-story atrium and connecting bridges that link the West Pavilion with three floors of the Russell Ambulatory Building. Major components of the 370,000 sq.ft. project are state-of-the-art nursing units for orthopedic surgery, neurology, intensive care, neurosurgery, anatomical pathology, clinical research center, and VIP inpatient nursing unit. Support services encompass hospital food service, educational and conference spaces, laboratory, medical library, and an admitting suite. The project included:

  • Upgrade of utility power source and new 277/480V distribution system for mechanical and kitchen equipment
  • Complete water booster system, vacuum pump system, clinical compressed air system, and all associated waste and vent systems
  • Communication systems consisting of nurse call, master clock and TV signal systems, code 10, intercom, fire alarm, and paging
  • Computerized building communication network to monitor status and program test schedules of automatic transfer switches
