WTA designed the new 550,000 sq.ft. Charles Evans Whittaker federal courts building in Kansas City, Missouri. Project issues included:

  • Extensive energy and life cycle cost analysis utilizing DOE 2.1 and BLCC
  • Design of 1,250 kW emergency generator to provide power in the event of a power outage
  • Multiple chillers staged for peak and off loading
  • Variable speed chilled water and condenser water pumping systems
  • Water side economizer for selected loads
  • DDC monitoring and control of plant functions
  • Daylighting for interior court space
  • Extensive analysis of heating requirements for large glazed areas
  • Custom lighting fixtures and controls
  • Smoke evacuation of rotunda
  • Underground parking garage for 83 cars
