WTA designed the new 550,000 sq.ft. Charles Evans Whittaker federal courts building in Kansas City, Missouri. Project issues included:
- Extensive energy and life cycle cost analysis utilizing DOE 2.1 and BLCC
- Design of 1,250 kW emergency generator to provide power in the event of a power outage
- Multiple chillers staged for peak and off loading
- Variable speed chilled water and condenser water pumping systems
- Water side economizer for selected loads
- DDC monitoring and control of plant functions
- Daylighting for interior court space
- Extensive analysis of heating requirements for large glazed areas
- Custom lighting fixtures and controls
- Smoke evacuation of rotunda
- Underground parking garage for 83 cars
