WTA provided engineering design for the 79,000 sq.ft. Missouri Botanical Garden-Monsanto Research Center. The facility includes research laboratories, offices and support space, an interpretive area, a herbarium containing more than 4.5 million plant specimens, and a research library containing over 121,000 volumes including 8,000 volumes in the Garden's Rare Book Collection. Project features include:
- HVAC criteria for preservation and insect control
- Building zoning to separate environmentally critical (+ 1 deg. F.) and humidification (+ 5 percent relative humidity) from normal office space
- Zoned humidification with humidifiers positioned well outside of critical space to facilitate maintenance and to avoid water droplets
- Low temperature supply air system to reduce fan energy and system cost
- Heat reclaim to reduce cooling and dehumidification energy
- Daylighting analysis and controls
